The
Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is holding a legislative hearing on
S.2599, the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation Restoration Act, on Wednesday.
The bill returns nearly 12,000 acres in northern Minnesota to the

The land is now part of the
Chippewa
National Forest within the U.S. Forest Service. Only Congress can transfer land under federal management.
The hearing on S.2599 takes place immediately following a
business
meeting at 2:30pm Eastern on Wednesday. Only two people are on the witness list:
Ms. Leslie Weldon
Deputy Chief for the National Forest System, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, DC
The Honorable Faron Jackson, Sr.
Chairman, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Cass Lake, MN
