The city of Shawnee, Oklahoma, will hold a public hearing tonight on a land detachment petition submitted by the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. The tribe filed the petition after the city claimed tribal businesses must collect the city's five percent sales tax. The city has halted the effort but the tribe still wants a formal declaration that its trust lands do not fall under local jurisdiction.
