Mayor who admitted drug use defends Washington team name





A Canadian mayor who admitted using illicit substances while in office is defending the use of "Indian" mascots in sports.

Toronto, Ontario, Mayor Rob Ford said the Washington professional sports team should keep its name. He called the debate over racist mascots "ridiculous."

“What are we going to call the Cleveland Indians? The Cleveland Aboriginals? Where do we start?" Ford told reporters, according to The National Post.

Ford was stripped of most of his powers following his drug use admission. He will now be appearing weekly on a Washington, D.C.,-area sports radio show, starting today.

Incidentally, when Ford first discussed his drug use last month, his was wearing a tie from the Washington team:
