NCAI hosts Capitol Hill briefing on 'Indian' mascots on Thursday

The National Congress of American Indians will host a briefing on Capitol Hill on Thursday to discuss the use of "Indian" mascots.

Speakers will discuss the harmful effects of mascots on Indian youth. Panelist include Suzan Shown Harjo, the president of the Morning Star Institute and one of the leading activists against the use of racist mascots.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) and Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota), who are co-sponsors of H.R.1278, the Non-Disparagement of Native American Persons or Peoples in Trademark Registration Act, are also expected to participate.

The briefing takes place from 3:30pm to 5pm in Rooms B-338 & B-339 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be followed by a reception from 5pm to 6pm.
