Rodney W. Abrahamson, the vice chairman of the Spokane Tribe of Washington, was cited for taking part in a bison hunt in Montana, The Spokesman Review reports.

Abrahamson went hunting with members of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho outside of Yellowstone National Park in February. But since he is not Nez Perce and since the Spokane Tribe lacks an off-reservation hunting agreement with Montana, he was cited for illegal poaching, the paper said.

Authorities said Abrahamson, 41, gave the name of a Nez Perce member when asked about the hunt. He is married to a Nez Perce woman.

Abrahamson's cousin was also cited, the paper said.
