County challenges Miccosukee Tribe land-into-trust application

Miami-Dade County in Florida is fighting a land-into-trust application from the
Miccosukee Tribe.
The
Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's application for 230 acres in July. The site currently houses a golf course.
“Placing the Miccosukee Golf Course in trust for the Tribe will continue to benefit all South Floridians by generating more family-style recreation as well as much-needed jobs and other forms of economic development for our communities,” Chairman Colley Billie told The Miami Herald.
The county, however, says the BIA failed to consider municipal service, law enforcement and other issues. The county also claims the land could be used for gaming.
