Chief of Cherokee Nation endorses Barack Obama for president

The leader of the largest tribe in the U.S. is endorsing Barack Obama for president.

Bill John Baker, the principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, is attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention. He said Obama deserves a second term in the White House.

“This president has made promises to Indian Country, and he's kept them,” Baker told The Oklahoman. “He is a promise keeper. And that needs to be recognized and rewarded.”

Earlier this year, the Cherokees authorized about $180,000 in political contributions. The money was split between Democrats and Republicans.
