Native American Council convenes for Democratic Convention

The 2012 Democratic National Convention includes 150 Native American delegates, KOAT-TV reports.

Most of the delegates are taking part of the Native American Council. It's not quite the same as a caucus so tribal activists are looking for ways to increase their influence.

"We're working to get a larger representation of Native people on the DNC so that we can qualify as a caucus," Alvin Warren of Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico told KOAT.

About 10 Native delegates are from New Mexico.
