The Bureau of Indian Affairs is being asked to intervene in a leadership dispute within the Cayuga Nation of New York.

The tribal council passed a resolution to remove Clint Halftown as the tribe's federal representative, Turtle Clan mother Brenda Bennett told The Auburn Citizen. The resolution also calls for the removal of Tim Twoguns and Gary Wheeler from their leadership positions.

"We knew sooner or later that this would boil over and it just did," attorney Joseph Heath, who represents the group that wants Halftown removed, told The Syracuse Post-Standard.

Tribal members who are unhappy with Halftown's leadership staged a protest outside of the tribal headquarters. Halftown responded by shutting down the tribe's two convenience stations.
