At least five candidates plan to run for president of the Navajo Nation, The Farmington Daily Times reports.
Donald Benally and Rex Lee Jim have filed their papers and paid the $1,500 fee. Anthony Begay, Ben Shelly and Ivan Gamble have until May 4 to complete the process.
Benally current serves as vice president of the Shiprock Chapter in New Mexico. Jim is a Navajo Nation Council delegate from the Rock Point Chapter in Arizona.
Shelly is the tribe's current vice president. Gamble is a small business owner from Arizona.
