A man from the Samson Cree
Nation in Alberta was sentenced to 13 years in prison for shooting a toddler on the reserve in April 2008.
Christopher Crane, 20, said he shot at a home because he believed it was owned by gang members. Instead, he hit Asia Saddleback, who was 23 months at the time.
Asia is now 4 and has recovered from most of her injuries. But doctors say she will live with a bullet in her spine for the rest of her life because it's too risky to remove it.
Authorities say about a dozen gangs are active on the reserve.
