The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction ordered a public school to stop using its Chieftains nickname and logo.
The Osseo Fairchild School District was given a year to eliminate the name and logo. The school could face fines if it doesn't comply.
The decision came as the department holds a hearing on Thursday to discuss a new state law that requires public schools to address the use of Indian mascots and imagery.
