Nevada tribes say the permanent reauthorization of the Indian Health
Care Improvement Act will improve the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives in their state.
"The Native American people feel like this is a victory. They feel like it is a good day for them," Yerington Paiute Tribe Health Director Darrell Holloway told The Reno Gazette-Journal "It had been something that tribes throughout the U.S. and particularly Nevada have been pushing for."
The IHCIA was included in H.R.3590,
the national health reform bill that President Barack Obama signed
last week. One provision requires the creation of an Indian Health Service office for Nevada so that tribes won't have to travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to address their issues.
