The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian
Community of Arizona hopes a new baseball complex will draw more fans and customers to its reservation.
The tribe won a bid to build a stadium for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies. Construction on the 140-acre complex is set to begin in November.
"We want the fans to come out here to Indian country to enjoy baseball," vice president Martin Harvier said at a press conference, The Arizona Republic reported. Visitors can stay at the tribe's hotel or play at the tribe's golf course.
The tribe plans to apply for federal stimulus funds to help build the stadium, the first Major League Baseball facility in Indian Country
