The Oglala Sioux
Tribe of South Dakota is accepting application for a new chief of police.
Joe Herman is the current chief but was the subject of complaints. Half of the tribe's police force walked off the job in mid-August, partly in protest of Herman's employment.
The tribe is now working to ensure the Bureau of Indian Affairs doesn't take over law enforcement on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The BIA has sent temporary officers to the reservation.
