State police testify about Narragansett raid

Rhode Island police officers testified about their role in the state's raid of the Narragansett Reservation on Wednesday.

Officers said tribal members resisted arrest and sought to "incite" others as state troopers tried to shut down a smokeshop on the reservation. Seven Narragansetts -- including Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas, two council members and a tribal police officer -- ended up being charged with misdemeanors for the July 14, 2003, raid.

Testimony continues today. The state is calling about 60 witnesses, including many of the police officers who participated in the raid.
