Police turn over e-mails on Narragansett raid

The Rhode Island State Police turned over finally turned over e-mail messages related to the 2003 raid of the Narragansett Reservation.

State prosecutors previously said they gave all documents to the seven tribal members who were arrested during the raid. But the defense later found out that some information that could be used to prove their innocence was held back.

The seven tribal members want a judge to dismiss the charges because they didn't receive the documents. Some e-mails appear to be have been deleted.

The state raided the reservation on July 14, 2003, to shut down a smoke shop that was selling cigarettes without state taxes. A federal appeals court said the state was within its rights.
