The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments on Tuesday in the long-running Oneida land claim.
Arlinda Locklear, a lawyer for the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, said the arguments went well. She said the judges understand that the Oneidas were cheated out of a 250,000-acre reservation.
The Oneidas of New York and and Canada are also part of the lawsuit. The tribes appealed a May 21, 2007 lower court ruling that said they could not repossess the land.
The state of New York and two counties are defendants in the case. They appealed part of the decision that said they might owe money to the tribes.
