Narragansett smokeshop raid case goes to jury

Jurors heard closing arguments in the trial of seven members of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island who were arrested during a state raid of the reservation.

The jury will determine whether the tribal members -- including Chief Sachem -- are guilty of misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The charges stem from the state's July 14, 2003, raid.

The prosecution claims tribal members actively resisted and even provoked state troopers. The defense says the tribal members were defending themselves in a highly-confusing incident.

The trial lasted five weeks.
