The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota says a draft environmental impact statement for its proposed oil refinery is coming soon.
The tribe hopes to win a permit for the $250 million project on the Fort Berthold Reservation. If that happens, it would be the first new refinery in 40 years.
"It's an exciting time, this is going to be the first refinery permitted in the US since 1976, the last full grassroots refinery, built from the ground up," Horace Pipe, a consultant for the tribe, told KX News.
The tribe is also seeking to get into the oil drilling business.
