The Environmental Protection Agency is seeking more information about the Navajo Nation's power plant.
The EPA submitted comments on a draft environmental impact statement issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The EPA is concerned about byproducts from the coal-fired power plant and increased dust from traffic.
The tribe wants to build a $2.5 billion power plant near Shiprock, New Mexico. The BIA held a series of public meetings on the project and has extended the comment period on the draft EIS.
