The Bureau of Indian Affairs has released a draft environmental impact statement on the Navajo Nation's proposed power plant.
The draft EIS recommends approval of the Desert Rock Power Plant in New Mexico. The BIA, however, acknowledged environmental, health and safety impacts on the local community.
The tribe says the $2.5 billion power plant, financed by Sithe Global, will generate revenues and jobs. Opponents, including tribal members, say the project will harm the environment.
