Sierra Club sues EPA over Navajo power plant

The Sierra Club has filed suit against the Environmental Protection Agency over a proposed power plant on the Navajo Nation.

The Sierra Club says the EPA failed to consider how pollution from a $2.5 billion coal-fired power plant would affect area residents. The EPA issued a Federal Implementation Plan for the project in May.

The Navajo Nation has partnered with an energy company to open the Desert Rock power plant near Shiprock, New Mexico. The tribe says the project will generate jobs and revenues.

Navajo environmental activists and Navajos who live near the power plant site oppose the project.
