Myra Pearson, the chairwoman of the Spirit Lake Nation, was elected as chair of the board for the United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota. Pearson's election took place at a meeting February 16. She also assumes leadership of the United Tribes of North Dakota, which represents the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, the Spirit Lake Nation, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Also at the meeting, Jim Baker, a council member for the Turtle Mountain Band, was elected vice-chair. Marcus Wells Jr., the chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, was elected secretary-treasurer. The board governs operations of UTTC, which serves over 1,000 students annually.
