On the first day of the 110th Congress on Thursday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California) introduced a land-into-trust bill for the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians.
The tribe wants about 991 acres placed in trust. The land is adjacent to the reservation and contains several important cultural sites, including burial grounds.
The Interior Department previously supported a similar version of the bill but wanted Congress to spell out which trust duties applied to the land.
