The Onondaga Nation says its lawsuit over 4,000 square-miles in New York is not a land claim.
The tribe wants a declaration that it was the original owner of the land but doesn't want money or to displace residents, a lawyer said. Instead, the tribe wants a bigger role in environmental cleanup efforts.
The tribe is facing a motion to dismiss the case based on the recent dismissal of the Cayuga land claim. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said the Cayuga tribe waited too long to file their suit.
