The girlfriend of Jude Clarence "Jude" Stensgar Sr., a former chairman of the Colville Confederated Tribes of Washington, says she shot him in self-defense.
Stensgar, 77, was killed in his home on the reservation on November 27. Lisa Denobrega, 46, told the FBI she shot him because he tried to choke her.
Stensgar served on the tribal council for more 18 years. He was chairman in 1989.
The funeral was held December 4.
