Hundreds of students, teachers and parents are pouring into Rapid City, South Dakota, this week for the 30th annual Lakota Nation Invitational.
The event features a basketball tournament, traditional hand games, a Lakota quiz bowl and Indian education seminars. But rising costs have put a strain on the schools and the organizers.
This year, some schools are sending fewer teachers to the event. Many cite the increasing cost of hotel rooms.
Next year, the Invitational will be cut down to three days instead of four. Organizers are looking for ways to make it easier for people to attend.
