Students compete in Lakota Invitational events

The 28th Lakota Nation Invitational kicked off in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Wednesday with student language and art competitions.

The Tiospaye Topa School on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation won the he first round in the Woiye Akiciyapi, or language bowl. A total of 15 schools are competing in the final rounds today.

More than 1,000 pieces of art being exhibited in the LNI Art Show. Students from a dozen tribal schools competed in 14 divisions.

The invitational also features a basketball tournament, hand games and wrestling matches.
