Randy Wescogame, a member of the Havasupai Tribe of Arizona, was charged with murder, kidnap and robbery in connection with the death of a Japanese tourist.
Wescogame is accused of killing 34-year-old tourist Tomomi Hanamure. She had gone missing during a trip to the Grand Canyon, where the tribe's reservation is located.
The U.S. Attorney in Arizona said the murder was the first instance of homicide among the Havasupai in five years.
