Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Arizona), the co-chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has been defeated by Democrat Harry Mitchell.

Hayworth lost with 46 percent of the vote to Mitchell's 50 percent. But Hayworth won't concede until all provisional ballots are counted, a spokesperson said.

Hayworth is a longtime member of the House Resources Committee and is considered a major tribal ally. He has broken with his party to support Indian issues but Republicans redrew his district and excluded the significant Indian vote in the Phoenix area.
