"The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation has been a part of San Diego for thousands of years and today we play a vital role in the culture and economy of our region. The Sycuan Tribe has a unique identity with deep traditions and ties to our heritage with strong and positive goals for our future.
The Sycuan are a people with ancestors who have lived in the San Diego area for nearly 12,000 years. Currently, there are 130 Sycuan tribal members and we proudly pass down many time-honored traditions to keep our heritage and customs alive.
To realize our goal of diversification, the Sycuan Tribal Development Corp. (STDC) (www.sycuancasino.com/stdc.html) was established. STDCs first acquisition was the golf course and resort property of Singing Hills, making Sycuan the first tribe in San Diego to offer guests a resort experience. STDC has been busy with development projects in downtown San Diego and National City, purchasing the historic US Grant, beginning a capital management firm and becoming boxing promoters with Sycuan Ringside Promotions.
Being a good neighbor is of utmost importance to Sycuan. We have contributed generously to hundreds of charitable and civic organizations over the years. We are grateful for the success we have realized and see it as our obligation to help our neighbors and to contribute toward making San Diego, our native homeland, a better place."
