Sycuan Band opens downtown San Diego hotel

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation reopened the doors to the famed U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

The tribe bought the hotel in 2003 for $45 million. The tribe spent $52 million on renovations.

The purchase was significant because the hotel was built for former president Ulysses S. Grant, who signed the executive order that set aside the Sycuan Reservation.
