Tribes with land along the U.S.-Mexico border have found life tougher in the post-September 11, world.

Members of the Tohono O'odham Nation in the U.S. and Mexico freely crossed the border for decades. But the arrival of more and more Department of Homeland Security agents has put strains on the tribe.

"It's absolutely horrendous, how our traditional passage is being cut off," Arlene Ju�hamad Ju�rez told The San Antonio Express-News.

Members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona say the U.S. Border Patrol began confiscated sacred objects soon after 9/11. Members of the Kumeyaay Nation of California fear anti-immigrant sentiments could hurt their border crossings.

In Texas, the attitude among the Kickapoo Tribe is different. Members are citizens of both the U.S. and Mexico, and they see no problem with beefing up the border presence.
