Four members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe have left their home in South Dakota to complete a big challenge.

Jesse Big Crow, Joni Tobacco, David Mills and Nakina Mills will swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco. Although none are accomplished swimmers, they are confident they can complete the 1.2 mile trip.

"Traditionally when something comes out of your mouth, you say you'll do something you're expected to uphold that," Tobacco told KGO-TV of San Francisco.

The four from the Pine Ridge Reservation were invited by Dr. Nancy Iverson, a pediatrician and founder of PATHStar, or Preservation of Authentic Traditions and Healing.
