Connecticut tribes contacted about artifact find

The state of Connecticut is working with two tribes to decide what to do about the discovery of more than 8,800 artifacts.

The artifacts were found at the site of a major development in Norwich. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe are located nearby.

State Archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni said the tribes would be consulted to decide how to preserve of excavate the site. No human remains appear to have been uncovered.

The artifacts were discovered on a 45-acre portion of the 470-acre site that Utopia Studios is using for a $1.6 billion studio complex.
