The Soboba Band of Luise�o Indians canceled its law enforcement contract with Riverside County, California, after questioning the value of the agreement and receiving complaints about the service.

The tribe was spending about $400,000 a year to have four sheriff's deputies patrol the reservation. But tribal leaders said the officers didn't always respond to calls on time and violated the privacy of some tribal members.

The tribe now plans to close a road that leads to the residential section of the reservation in hopes of addressing crime and other issues. Separately, the tribe is embarking on an expansion of its golf course.
