The Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe has hired an engineering and consulting firm to develop a wind farm.
Interim chairman Jerry Flute said the initial focus of the project was one of economic development. But with tribal members facing high energy prices, he said the wind farm should address their needs.
The tribe is using a $50,000 grant for a feasibility study and is seeking an additional $250,000 . Another $1.5 million would be needed to start building the wind farm.
