Update 9:30AM: Rep. Richard Pombo said the Cobell settlement bill will NOT be considered today. He is proceeding with the IGRA bill and the other items on the agenda. He expects debate on the IGRA bill to take a good amount of time. The committee, however, will recess at 11am for a joint session of Congress.
The House Resources Committee is holding a markup today on legislation to settle the Cobell trust fund lawsuit and a bill to restrict off-reservation gaming.
H.R.4322 is expected to call for an $8 billion settlement to Cobell. The Senate version will be considered next week.
H.R.4893 amends Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. It would eliminate certain off-reservation gaming proposals and make it harder to take land into trust for gaming purposes.
S.1773 will settle the land claims of San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico.
The markup starts at 9:30am [Agenda]. It should be available online at http://resourcescommittee.house.gov
