Members of the Red Lake Nation in Minnesota are going to the polls on Wednesday to choose a new leader.
Incumbent chairman Floyd Jourdain is facing a challenge from Judy Roy, the tribal secretary. Neither candidate received 50 percent of the votes during a May election, prompting the run-off this week.
Jourdain is seeking a second term in office. His first term was marked by the March 21, 2005, shootings on the reservation. His son pleaded guilty to a non-violent crime in connection with the incident.
Roy was a prominent figure in the aftermath of the shootings. If elected, she would be the first woman to lead the tribe.
