A Navajo Nation Council delegate who was behind the tribe's ban on same-sex marriage is now going after flag desecration.

Currently, anyone who mishandles the flag can be escorted off the reservation. But delegate Larry Anderson Sr. wants to increase the punishment with a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time.

Anderson previously trigged controversy for introducing legislation to ban same-sex marriage. The measure was vetoed by Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr., but he was overridden by the council.
