"Monday, [Janine] Pease was appointed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer to the Montana Board of Regents. The move is a home run for higher education in Montana.
Pease, who most recently has served as vice president for American Indian Affairs at Rocky, has done much over the years to help Indians of all ages and nations get college educations.
From a chair on the seven-member Board of Regents, she should be able to do even more.
In accepting the appointment, she said she's interested in continuing efforts to ease students' transitions between tribal colleges and units of the state university system.
Distance learning programs for students in remote areas also are of special interest to Pease.
Both should be priorities of the university system."
