An insurance company has settled a claim with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota over the tribal school.
A fire destroyed the school dormitory and dining hall. But a dispute arose with St. Paul Travelers over insurance at the facility.
An undisclosed financial settlement resolves the issue and ensures the school to stay open.
Meanwhile, Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs on Tuesday to redirect a $3 million earmark returned by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan to school construction funds. The tribe had received the money due to lobbying efforts by Jack Abramoff but returned it last month.
