The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota hopes to find $2.2 million to replace a student dormitory that was destroyed by fire on Sunday.
The Crow Creek High School is on the Bureau of Indian Affairs' school construction priority list. But the school is number 9, meaning funding might be two or three years away.
The tribe and members of Congress say funds are needed immediately because students will need a place to stay by the upcoming fall term. The tribe has been lobbying repeatedly for more money.
The dorm and all of the students' possessions were completely destroyed by the fire. A Crow Creek School Relief fund has been set up at the Wells Fargo bank in South Dakota. Clothing donations are being accepted at the Crow Creek Elementary School.
