The Oglala Sioux Tribe has been awarded a three-year, $1.45 million Community Oriented Policing Services grant to maintain its police department.
The grant was set to expire at the end of the month without additional funding. But the Department of Justice has waived a requirement to allow the money to continue.
The tribe said it would have lost 59 officers once the grant went away.
