Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) is facing his first serious primary challenge on Tuesday, with three Republicans seeking the party's nomination.
Some say they won't be casting their ballot for DeLay. "I voted for Tom DeLay before, but definitely not this time because of all the problems we've seen," one Republican told The New York Times.
In the last two years, DeLay was rebuked three times by the House ethics committee. He was indicted on money-laundering and conspiracy charges in Texas and he was forced to step down as House majority leader.
DeLay is said to be under scrutiny for his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff whom he once called "one of my closest and dearest friends." With Abramoff's cooperation, the Department of Justice is investigation alleged corruption and bribery in Congress.
Political observers say DeLay is likely to win the primary but he could face a serious challenge come November. His Democratic opponent is Nick Lampson, a former congressman.
