Drug trafficking ring busted on Pine Ridge Reservation

A joint federal-tribal investigation resulted in the indictments of 16 people for drug trafficking on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The indictments stem from a cocaine trafficking ring on the reservation. A federal grant jury charged the 16 with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to cocaine. Some people face additional firearms and other drug charges.

The investigation gained speed recently when a 16-year-old teen died of a gunshot to the face. The incident occurred December 10 at the mobile home of one of the alleged conspirators. Some arrests have been made in connection with the death but no information has been released.
