Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) will take the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota, on Thursday for a field hearing on President Bush's fiscal year 2007 budget.
Dorgan, the vice chair of the committee, will run the hearing. He is gathering testimony about the impact of Bush's budget cuts on North Dakota's Indian communities. As one example, the budget includes no money for UTTC, one of the nation's 30-plus tribal colleges.
The witnesses for the hearing are: Ron His Horse Is Thunder, Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Tex Hall, Chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes; Ken Davis, Chairman of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa; Myra Pearson, Chair of the Spirit Lake Tribe; and James JC Crawford, Chairman of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe.
The hearing is being held at 10:30am in the Jack Barden Student Technology Center at UTTC [Web Site]. Tribal members are invited to attend.
