Oglala Sioux man to challenge Herseth for House seat

Bruce Whalen, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, plans to seek the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Stephanie Herseth (D) for South Dakota's lone House seat.

Whalen, 43, a resident of the Pine Ridge Reservation and chairman of the Shannon County Republican Party, says Indian issues will play a big role in his campaign. But the South Dakota GOP chairman also says Whalen will promote other important issues.

Also running for the seat is Terry Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation. He is running as a Libertarian.
