Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) may lose his seat as the top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee next year.
Inhofe served as chairman under the Republican majority. He used his position to insert an anti-sovereignty rider that prevents Oklahoma tribes from winning treatment as state status from the Environmental Protection Agency without state approval.
Now that Democrats are taking over Congress, Sen. John Warner (R-Virginia) wants to be the top GOP on the panel. Inhofe says he will fight to keep his job.
In addition to the anti-tribal rider, Inhofe is currently sponsoring legislation to lease Fort Reno, which is claimed by the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes.
